Menus

All snacks and lunches are prepared according to the guidelines of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). We serve foods that are high in protein and fiber, low in fat, salt, and sugar. We prepare our meals in our own kitchen “from scratch” whenever possible, or catered by Arizona School Meals. Meals include whole wheat products and as much fresh produce as possible. We do not serve highly processed food products.

We use a tested eight-week set of rotating menus. Meals and snacks are seasoned to a child’s taste, and are served family-style in the classroom.

Menus are published monthly in the school’s newsletter, and are posted weekly in the parent information center of the school. The posted menus list all of the components required and served at each meal service.

Food and drinks should never be brought from home, except for medical or religious reasons and must be accompanied by a doctor’s note.

In most cases, we will substitute equally nutritious food for the offending food. For example, if we are serving turkey sandwiches for lunch and your child is allergic to turkey, we would serve your child a cheese sandwich along with the rest of the components of the meal. If your child cannot eat a particular food or food type and we are unable to provide a viable substitute, you could provide a substitute from home for that particular item with a doctor’s note.

Fast foods or other prepared meals (such as “Lunchables”) are not allowed, as these foods do not meet nutritional standards.

Some Sunrise schools participate in the USDA federal food program (CACFP). This program provides financial assistance to qualifying child care centers and helps to offset food costs with the goal of improving the diet of children 12 years of age and under. You will be asked to complete a confidential income affidavit for purposes of determining the level of qualification and reimbursement for the school.

The program does not permit discrimination due to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, political belief, sexual orientation, family or marital status. The USDA is an equal opportunity employer and provider. To file a complaint of discrimination, contact the USDA, Office of Civil Rights, Room 326-W, Whitten Building, 14th and Independence Avenue SW, Washington DC, 20250-9410.
